Taking off with a moment's notice

Today's assignment from Travelin'Oma. She has some great advice!

Years ago my husband told me to get my dop kit prepared so that if he wanted to whisk me away some night as a surprise, he could grab it, and I’d have everything I need. That’s a man for you, isn’t it? No worries about a change of underclothing or outer clothing. But he was right – it was good to be prepared, and I would have happily gone along anytime he wanted to have a night away.

When my sister and her family were stationed in Germany over 20 years ago, we got passports for ourselves and all our children. We wanted to be able to go see her if the opportunity or need arose. Since then our entire family has always had a current passport.

So, my passport is handy, my dop kit is stocked, except for medicines. But since reading Travelin’Oma’s post about being prepared to travel at a moment’s notice, I realize I’m not as ready as I’d like to be. Yes, I would be willing and able to leave on a vacation with just a couple of hours to get ready and go, but it would be easier to do it with a lot more of it stocked and all ready to go.

I love being organized. In fact, I’m leaving on a trip in two and a half weeks. I can hardly wait to get my travel gear in order. So, with that in mind, no more writing for today. I’m off to gather the things I need to be truly ready to leave with a moment’s notice. I can’t wait!

  1. Taking off at a moment's notice would leave out the planning, and I love planning for a trip. Have fun!
