I saw this book in the library listings recently. I was shocked - A Madeleine L'Engle book that I didn't know about??I checked it out. Turns out it was written in the 1940's, and never published. She worked on it some more in the late 1970's, and it ended up belonging to her granddaughters. They found it again after she died last year, and decided to publish it.
The book is somewhat biographical. I don't think it was a polished as her other books - but I knew before I read it that she never did the final editing on the book, so I don't know if I have a slanted opinion of it.
I like the story. I felt a teeny bit like some of the conversations weren't as clear as they could be - like I came in late and had to make some inferences on my own.
Worth reading? Yes if you are a L'Engle fanatic like me. Probably yes whether you are or not, but I'd read some of her other stuff first.
